Chapter 5 Project

Directions: You must complete one of the following assignments. You can choose a second project to complete as an extra credit project. All extra credit projects must be turned in on time. Extra credit projects will be counted as a test grade.

1. Research information on the Terra Cotta Soldiers. Recreate one using clay or papier-mâché. Your soldier should not be more than 1 foot tall. Along with your project include a paragraph explaining how you made your soldier. Include a second paragraph explaining the significance of Terra Cotta Soldiers.
2. Research information on the Silk Road. Imagine you are a trader on the Silk Road. Create a map of the Silk Road showing how it stretched from China all the way to the Fertile Crescent. Show the goods and ideas carried on the Silk Road and how it connected with other trade routes. Include a two paragraph essay on the significance of the Silk Road and its importance to the growth of Ancient China.
3. Many different technologies came out of Ancient China. Research one of the following and create a magazine advertisement for that technology. It should be on an 8 ½ x11 paper. Your advertisement should include how it was developed and what it is used for. Include a two paragraph essay on the significance of your technology and how it helped the Ancient Chinese civilization.
a. Acupuncture, Rudder, Seismoscope, Compass, Wheelbarrow, silk weaving. Remember we are talking about ANCIENT CHINA!
4. Research information on the Great Wall. Create a display that shows a map of the Great Wall, how it was built, and who built it. Your display can be a small diorama (shoe box) or a poster board (large size). It should include visuals. Include with your display, a two paragraph essay explaining why the Great Wall was built and the significance to Ancient Chinese civilizations.
5. Research information on Confucius. Create FIVE different greeting cards based on the teachings of Confucius. Greeting cards are folded papers in which a sentiment is written. Remember your greeting cards should match his teachings. Include a two paragraph essay on Confucius and his impact on Ancient Chinese civilizations.

Chapter 4 Project Sheet

Directions: Choose one of the following projects below to complete. You may choose an extra project to complete as an extra credit assignment. Extra credit assignments must be turned in on time and will count as a test grade.

1. Research information on the Ganges River. One of the major issues today is the pollution of the river. Create a brochure explaining the pollution and its impact on India. What are the sources of pollution? What is being done about the pollution? Include pictures and data.

2. Research information on Hinduism’s main gods. Create a mobile that shows and explains the main Hindu gods. Your mobile should include a picture and explanation.

3. Asoka had moral advice posted around his empire. Research some the advice he posted. Create 3 public service announcements for appropriate behavior in Middle School based off of Asoka’s moral advice. Your public service announcements can be billboards, recorded messages, a video, or pamphlet.

4. Research information on Mohenjo-Daro or Harappa. Create a travel advertisement encouraging people to travel to either city. Make sure to include the advancements they have in their civilization compared to others. Included visuals in your advertisement.

5. Create a children’s book on the life of Buddha. This is going to a book to teach 4^th or 5^th grade students about Buddha and his accomplishments. Visuals are a must and remember to make the vocabulary something a 4^th or 5^th grader will understand.

The Great Sphinx

Many believe that the Great Sphinx is a pyramid. That is not true. Research information on the Great Sphinx. Create a travel brochure on the Great Sphinx. Your brochure should have information on why it was built, who it was built for, when was it built, and all other interesting and important information. You should also have visuals in your brochure. This will count as an extra project grade. Due dates: A day- Tuesday January 3 B day-Wednesday January 4. NO LATE PROJECTS WILL BE ACCEPTED!!!!

Rubric:
100 points total

25 points: Brochure is correct format (tri-fold style). Brochure contains visuals and information. Brochure is organized and easy to understand.

25 points: Information in brochure is accurate and historically correct. Information is in students own words. Information is written in pen or typed. Information is organized and easy to understand (it makes sense). ****Students who directly cut and paste or copy directly from a source will receive a zero. Information that closely matches a source, for example, you change only a couple words will receive no credit. Make sure to put all information in your own words.

25 points: Visuals in brochure are clear and pertain to the information. Visuals do not need to be in color but they should be easy to see.

25 points: Annotated Bibliography. Information used for the brochure is in the correct MLA format. You can not simply say "Our History book". Bibliography is typed or written in pen. After each source that you use, explain how you used it. For example, if you a certain website for pictures. Under the citation, put Used for picture on front cover. If you are having trouble citing your sources correctly, use easybib.com

Thank you for your continued support in our classes. We are almost half way through the second nine weeks. Many of you have noticed your child's grade begin to decline. During the second nine weeks, the 6th grade teachers do not accept late homework or class work. This our effort to help your students become responsible for themselves and their work. We need your help in reminding students to turn work in on time and in checking their agendas. As teachers we try hard to make sure students are writing in their agendas but it is impossible to check every single students. We also need your support in the late homework. Tell your student they are responsible for turning in the work on time or they will get a zero that does affect their grade. The 6th grade teachers are working hard to prepare your students not only to be successful here at Julia Landon but also as they move on to Stanton or Paxon. Homework over Thanksgiving Break

I was trying not to give homework over the Thanksgiving break; however looking at our schedule and grades it had to be done.

1. Finish any stations that you did not complete in class. They are all on my blog.
2. All students were given a print out of their current grade in my class. This must be signed and returned when we come back to school.
3. On the grade sheet that was given out, items might have been highlighted in yellow. These items may be completed and turned in for 1/2 credit. This is your get out of jail free card!! The make up work must be turned in on A Day: Tuesday November 29 and B Day: Wednesday November 30. After those dates the grade will stay a zero.

This is your one and only chance this nine weeks to bring in the missing assignments!!! LATE WORK IS NO LONGER ACCEPTED!!!!

Welcome to Julia Landon!!!

I am so excited to be teaching the 6th grade once again. This is my favorite subject and I have lots of fun ideas and plans in store for us this year.
