Chapter 5 Project

Directions: You must complete one of the following assignments. You can choose a second project to complete as an extra credit project. All extra credit projects must be turned in on time. Extra credit projects will be counted as a test grade.

1. Research information on the Terra Cotta Soldiers. Recreate one using clay or papier-mâché. Your soldier should not be more than 1 foot tall. Along with your project include a paragraph explaining how you made your soldier. Include a second paragraph explaining the significance of Terra Cotta Soldiers.
2. Research information on the Silk Road. Imagine you are a trader on the Silk Road. Create a map of the Silk Road showing how it stretched from China all the way to the Fertile Crescent. Show the goods and ideas carried on the Silk Road and how it connected with other trade routes. Include a two paragraph essay on the significance of the Silk Road and its importance to the growth of Ancient China.
3. Many different technologies came out of Ancient China. Research one of the following and create a magazine advertisement for that technology. It should be on an 8 ½ x11 paper. Your advertisement should include how it was developed and what it is used for. Include a two paragraph essay on the significance of your technology and how it helped the Ancient Chinese civilization.
a. Acupuncture, Rudder, Seismoscope, Compass, Wheelbarrow, silk weaving. Remember we are talking about ANCIENT CHINA!
4. Research information on the Great Wall. Create a display that shows a map of the Great Wall, how it was built, and who built it. Your display can be a small diorama (shoe box) or a poster board (large size). It should include visuals. Include with your display, a two paragraph essay explaining why the Great Wall was built and the significance to Ancient Chinese civilizations.
5. Research information on Confucius. Create FIVE different greeting cards based on the teachings of Confucius. Greeting cards are folded papers in which a sentiment is written. Remember your greeting cards should match his teachings. Include a two paragraph essay on Confucius and his impact on Ancient Chinese civilizations.
