History Fair

Students should be working on their final draft.
Due Dates:
A Day: Friday March 2
B Day: Monday March 5

Below is the information that was given in class on Monday and Tuesday.

History Fair Report Guidelines

· All papers should be typed.
· 1 inch margins
· Double spaced
· 12 point font in Times New Roman in black ink
· Five body paragraphs
· Clear thesis statement
· Around 500 words


Rubric:
5 points: Title Page: Title page is attached to report and in correct format
10: Mechanics: Paper is type, 12 point font, double spaced and with 1 inch margins.
20: Focus: The writing is focused and purposeful. The report stays on topic. Each paragraph contains a main idea and all supporting details pertain to the main idea.
15: Organization: All ideas are well organized, connecting words are used correctly. There is a beginning, middle, and end of each paragraph.
15: Support: All reasons are well-written and fully explained with relevant and specific details.
10: Conventions: Correct spelling, usage, capitalization, and punctuation is used.
25: Annotated Bibliography: A bibliography is attached to the report. Sources are put in MLA format. Sources are identified how they were used. Only 2 websites were used. At least one primary source was used. A minimum of 3 sources are used to complete report.

Extra Credit!!!

Extra Credit Project

Directions: Choose 5 famous African Americans that influenced Black History. Create trading cards for the people you choose. Trading cards are like baseball cards. You will put a picture on one side and information on the other. On the information side, put the basic information about when they were born but also give their impact on Black History. If you need an example, please ask me. This will count as a project grade. NO LATE PROJECTS WILL BE ACCEPTED!

Rubric:
25 points: Picture on front of card is clear and easy to see.

25 points: Information is accurate and historically correct. Information shows their importance in black history.

25 points: Cards are organized and neat. Cards are free of errors.

25 points: Bibliography is included with the project. Sources are put in MLA format and identified how they are being used.

History Fair Rough Drafts

Students should be working on their History Fair Report rough draft. Your outline should be your guide to putting your paper together. Remember this is not a history report on that person. You are proving their impact on history. Think to yourself: "Why is my person important in history?" Your rough draft is only 300 words. If you type your paper, it needs to be in 12pt font, Times New Roman, double spaced, 1" margins. If you are writing your paper, it must be in pen and skip a line. You also must turn in a working bibliography. Remember to tell me how you used your source. You can only have 2 Internet sources. You also need 1 primary and 2 secondary sources. If you use a quotation, you must cite that in your paper as well.

3. Complete your 3 source cards for History Fair. Remember you need a website (.org, .edu, or .gov), book, and reference. You are only allowed to have 2 websites for your entire report. No Wikipedia!!! There is a minimum of 3 sources. Two are secondary and one primary. Ask the Librarians to help you out!!!

Friday February 3: B Day
1. Complete your Chapter 5 project.

Chapter 5 Project

Directions: You must complete one of the following assignments. You can choose a second project to complete as an extra credit project. All extra credit projects must be turned in on time. Extra credit projects will be counted as a test grade.

1. Research information on the Terra Cotta Soldiers. Recreate one using clay or papier-mâché. Your soldier should not be more than 1 foot tall. Along with your project include a paragraph explaining how you made your soldier. Include a second paragraph explaining the significance of Terra Cotta Soldiers.
2. Research information on the Silk Road. Imagine you are a trader on the Silk Road. Create a map of the Silk Road showing how it stretched from China all the way to the Fertile Crescent. Show the goods and ideas carried on the Silk Road and how it connected with other trade routes. Include a two paragraph essay on the significance of the Silk Road and its importance to the growth of Ancient China.
3. Many different technologies came out of Ancient China. Research one of the following and create a magazine advertisement for that technology. It should be on an 8 ½ x11 paper. Your advertisement should include how it was developed and what it is used for. Include a two paragraph essay on the significance of your technology and how it helped the Ancient Chinese civilization.
a. Acupuncture, Rudder, Seismoscope, Compass, Wheelbarrow, silk weaving. Remember we are talking about ANCIENT CHINA!
4. Research information on the Great Wall. Create a display that shows a map of the Great Wall, how it was built, and who built it. Your display can be a small diorama (shoe box) or a poster board (large size). It should include visuals. Include with your display, a two paragraph essay explaining why the Great Wall was built and the significance to Ancient Chinese civilizations.
5. Research information on Confucius. Create FIVE different greeting cards based on the teachings of Confucius. Greeting cards are folded papers in which a sentiment is written. Remember your greeting cards should match his teachings. Include a two paragraph essay on Confucius and his impact on Ancient Chinese civilizations.
